Brother O’Dwyer is a June 23rd, 1964 initiate of the Alpha-Eta Chapter at George Washington University. Brother O’Dwyer received his Bachelor’s Degree from George Washington in 1966. He obtained a Master’s Degree in Spanish from Middlebury College and graduated with his Juris Doctorate degree from Georgetown University Law Center. He also holds a Master’s of Law from the George Washington University Law School.
Brother O’Dwyer was recently appointed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as Commissioner of the United States National Commission for the United Nations Scientific, Educational and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Brother O’Dwyer has been appointed to a three year term. UNESCO’S work around the world is critically important in enhancing the lives of people struggling to advance economically and more fully enjoy the fruits of freedom. Brother O’Dwyer serves as Chairman of both the Emerald Isle Immigration Center and Association Tepeyac, which serves New York’s growing Mexican-American and Mexican Immigrant communities. Brother O’Dwyer has been selected to the Commission of White House Fellows and is a member of the George Washington University Board of Trustees.
Brother O’Dwyer is a senior partner at O’Dwyer and Bernstien, a century-old litigation firm, focusing on injury and accident law, labor relations, employee benefits, and general litigation.
Brother O’Dwyer served as Worthy Grand Master of Kappa Sigma from 1993-1995. He served six years on the Supreme Executive Committee. Brother O’Dwyer served as District Grand Master for New York, as Legal Commissioner and has been the long-time Alumnus Advisor of the award winning Nu-Gamma Chapter at Pratt Institute. Brother O’Dwyer has provided ongoing leadership with the work of the Brothers of the Nu-Gamma Chapter at Pratt Institute to help rebuild New Orleans, Louisiana. The efforts have been ongoing since the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Brother O’Dwyer and the Brothers from Nu-Gamma have been instrumental in cleaning and refurbishing housing, baseball fields and playgrounds that were no longer usable.
Brother O’Dwyer becomes the 78th Brother of Kappa Sigma to be selected Man of the Year.
