Brother John E. "Jack" Thompson joins the Chapter Celestial


Brothers, it is with great sadness that I inform you that Brother John E. “Jack” Thompson joined the Chapter Celestial of Kappa Sigma Fraternity on February 26, 2012. Brother Thompson was a 1933 initiate of the Delta-Nu Chapter at the University of California Los Angeles. He was 97 years old and would have celebrated his 98th birthday in April.  He was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on April 3, 1914 and died in Irvine, California.   


Jack served two stints on the Supreme Executive Committee. He was Worthy Grand Scribe from 1958-1965. During his service as WGS Brother Thompson ran an office for the Fraternity in Santa Barbara, California where he recorded the pledges and initiates of the chapters, maintained chapter reporting and correspondence and kept records for alumni Brothers. He was also responsible for the circulation of the Caduceus of Kappa Sigma Fraternity during his service as WGS. Brother Thompson also served on the Grand Conclave Commission and assisted with the planning of many Kappa Sigma Grand Conclaves over the years of his membership.

Chris Kontalonis promoted to Assistant Executive Director


It is with extreme pride that we announce the promotion of Brother Chris Kontalonis to the position of Assistant Executive Director. Brother Kontalonis is a September 22nd, 2002 initiate of the Beta-Upsilon Chapter at North Carolina State University. Brother Kontalonis served his Chapter as Grand Master and Rush Chairman. He also served as an ADGM for Volunteer Recruitment and Development before joining the Kappa Sigma Staff.

2011 Kappa Sigma Fraternity Man of the Year


Brothers, on behalf of the Supreme Executive Committee of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, I am pleased to inform you that Brother Brian J. O’Dwyer has been selected as the 2011 Kappa Sigma Man of the Year.  Brother O’Dwyer is a June 23rd, 1964 initiate of the Alpha-Eta Chapter at George Washington University.  Brother O’Dwyer received his Bachelor’s Degree from George Washington in 1966.  He obtained a Master’s Degree in Spanish from Middlebury College and graduated with his Juris Doctorate degree from Georgetown University Law Center.  He also holds a Master’s of Law from the George Washington University Law School.

Kappa Sigma Founder's Day Event - 12/10

In a few shorts days, on December 10th, Kappa Sigma will celebrate the 142nd anniversary of our North American founding at the University of Virginia!
 
For the first time this year, we will celebrate Founder's Day as an Order, with an event at our perpetual home at the foot of the Carter Mountains in Charlottesville, VA.

I am very happy to report some very good news and a significant milestone for our Order:

Today, for the first time in our history, Kappa Sigma has more than 15,000 active undergraduate members!

Dr. John W. Ryan joins the Chapter Celestial

I regret to inform you that PWGM Dr. John W. Ryan joined the Chapter Celestial on Saturday August 6, 2011. Brother Ryan was an initiate of Delta-Sigma chapter (The University of Utah) and served as Worthy Grand Master from 1985 to 1987. He was elected as a Trustee of the Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund in 2001.

Brother Ryan was one of the most prominent leaders in higher education, and served as President of Indiana University from 1971 to 1987.

Kappa Sigma Fraternity Shatters Records for Community Service, Recruitment and Total Membership During 2009-11 Biennium


Organization Remains Number One as Most Preferred, Retains Lowest Membership Dues of any International Fraternity and Has Best Year Financially in its History

Charlottesville, VA (June 16, 2011) – Kappa Sigma Fraternity today announced that it set numerous all-time organization records for recruitment, community service and overall membership growth during the 2009-11 biennium.  As the most preferred fraternity in North America, Kappa Sigma has for seven consecutive years added more new members than any other men’s collegiate social fraternity.
