Use of Cookies or Web Beacons On Kappa Sigma Sites
Many websites use "cookies" to help personalize online experience. A cookie is a text file that is placed on the hard disk by a web page server. Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to the computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to each computer, and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie.

The primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature in saving time. The purpose of a cookie is to tell the web server of a returning user in order to a specify a web page. For example, when a Kappa Sigma web page is personalized, or a user registers with a Kappa Sigma site or service, a cookie helps to recall specific information on subsequent visits. This simplifies the process of recording personal information, such as billing addresses, shipping addresses, and so on. When returning to the same Kappa Sigma web page, the information previously provided is retrieved to conveniently use the features that were customized. While some cookies contain personal information, others allow a user to customize a site while remaining anonymous. The privacy statement of the particular site visited will describe how that site uses cookies.

Kappa Sigma web pages may also contain electronic images known as web beacons -sometimes called single-pixel gifs-that allows Kappa Sigma to count users who have visited those pages and to deliver co-branded services. Web beacons are not used to access personally identifiable information. They are a process used to compile aggregated statistics about website usage.
