Hall of Honor – John Goodwin Tower

Brother John Goodwin Tower is a 1943 initiate of the Iota Chapter at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, and served as a member of our Supreme Executive Committee from 1967 until 1973 culminating in the office of Worthy Grand Master. Brother Tower was a veteran of World War II and saw action in the Pacific in the United States Navy. Brother Tower served as a faculty member of Midwestern University from 1951-1960. He was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate on May 27, 1961, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Lyndon B. Johnson for the term ending January 3, 1967. He was reelected in 1966, 1972 and 1978 and served from June 5, 1961, to January 3, 1985. Brother Tower was the 1961 Kappa Sigma Fraternity Man of the Year. He regularly attended the Grand Conclave and spoke about issues facing our country to the alumni and undergraduate delegates. His Kappa Sigma ring was always prominently displayed on his hand as one of his most proud possessions. Brother Bob Dole spoke of Brother Tower’s pride in being a Kappa Sigma and of his service as Worthy Grand Master. The John G. Tower award was established in 1997 and honors brothers who have been active in all walks of life, including service to their community, outstanding career work, or other achievements.
