Brother Dennis Haskins (Alpha-Iota, University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, ’70) graduated this past Saturday at age 65! Brother Haskins, or better known as Mr. Belding from Saved By the Bell, was once a student at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Having grown up in Chattanooga, Haskins first attended the University of Tennessee’s flagship campus in Knoxville with hopes of playing basketball for the Volunteers freshmen team. Unfortunately, he didn’t make the cut. A year later he found himself back in Chattanooga talking to Coach Leon Ford, UTC’s basketball coach at the time. Coach Ford gave Brother Haskins a second chance.
During his time as a student, Haskins stayed active on campus as both a walk-on for the basketball team and an undergraduate member of the Alpha-Iota Chapter of Kappa Sigma. But, Brother Haskins left before graduating to pursue a career in acting, and the rest is history. Despite all of his achievements, he knew that there was one thing missing. And at the age of 65, Brother Haskins went back and finished his degree at UTC!
