Kappa Sigma Fraternity is proud to announce Brother J. Michael Johnson (Gamma, Louisiana State University, ‘91), the 56th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, as the 2025 Kappa Sigma Man of the Year. Brother Johnson is the 92nd member of Kappa Sigma to receive the honor, which is presented annually in recognition of extraordinary professional success and societal impact.

Speaker Johnson was initiated into the Gamma Chapter of Kappa Sigma at Louisiana State University in 1991, where he served as Vice President and President of the Interfraternity Council. In 1995, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Louisiana State University. In 1998, he earned his Juris Doctor from LSU’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center.

“I am deeply humbled to receive the Kappa Sigma Man of the Year Award. It’s certainly not a distinction that I ever anticipated when I was initiated into the Gamma Chapter 34 years ago, but I am grateful to my brothers for this honor. Kappa Sigma has played an integral role in my journey, and the ideals of fellowship, leadership, scholarship, and service have guided me throughout my career. I think often of our famous creed, and I try to live out the ideals of the ‘Star and Crescent’ every day of my life, and inspire others to do the same. This is an honor I will always cherish.” Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Mike Johnson.

Speaker Johnson is serving his fifth term in the U.S. House of Representatives and has served as Speaker of the House since 2023. Johnson began his political career in 2015 when he was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives, where he served until 2017. He was elected to represent Louisiana’s 4th congressional district in 2016.

Brother Johnson was elected to serve as the Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference in 2021 and was reelected in 2023. He was elected the 56th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives on October 25, 2023—the first from Louisiana, and was reelected as Speaker on January 3, 2025.

In 2025, the J. Michael Johnson Scholarship Leadership Award was created by the Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund, establishing a $1,000 scholarship in Brother Johnson’s name to a Kappa Sigma at Louisiana State University in perpetuity.

“In Speaker Mike Johnson, we see a Brother whose life reflects the finest ideals of our Order – a leader guided by faith, principle, and unwavering dedication to his fellow man. His rise to the highest levels of public service is not just a personal achievement; it’s a testament to the enduring power of character, conviction, and Kappa Sigma Brotherhood.” Adam T. Poe, President-Elect of Kappa Sigma’s International Board of Directors.

Brother Johnson exemplifies the values of our organization and brings honor to himself, his family, and all of us as members of Kappa Sigma.

Brother Johnson will be honored in the coming months, and we will announce the details for the Man of the Year Banquet shortly on the Fraternity’s website.
